Whether you’re a "carry-on only" pro or you need a big suitcase for all those holiday outfits, here is how to check your allowance and make sure you’re all set for the airport.
Hold Luggage (The big cases) 🎒
Hold luggage is the luggage you 'check in' at the airport before you head through security. It’s whisked away on the conveyor belt and tucked under the plane while you relax.
Check your allowance: The best place to see what hold luggage is included is on your Flight Voucher or in the Flight Summary section of your paperwork.
Added Extras: If you bought hold bags when you booked, you’ll also see them in your Manage Booking account under Your Added Extras when hitting View and Manage Flights from the Your Flights section.
Double-check split flights: Flying out with one airline and back with another? Make sure to check the allowance for both legs of your journey, as they might be different!
Hand Luggage (The cabin essentials) 👜
Hand luggage is what you carry onto the plane with you.
Under-seat bags: Usually, a small personal item like a handbag or backpack that fits under the seat in front of you is free.
Cabin bags: If you want to bring a small suitcase for the overhead locker, there might be a cost depending on who you’re flying with.
Keep it current: Airlines change their cabin bag rules quite often! We always recommend checking your airline's website directly for the very latest size and weight restrictions. You can also see your specific allowance on your paperwork in the Flight Summary.
⚠️ A little heads-up: If you've added bags directly with your airline after booking with us, they won’t show up on your On the Beach paperwork. Don’t worry, though - the airline will have everything they need on their system!
Travelling with a baby or child under 2?
Flying with little beachers requires a bit of extra gear. While airlines are generally accommodating, rules around infants (under 2) vary greatly depending on who you are flying with. Always double-check your airline’s official policy before heading to the airport.
Infant Luggage & Nappy Bags
If your baby is travelling on your lap (an infant ticket), they do not usually get a standard cabin or hold luggage allowance of their own.
The Small Print: Some airlines will grant a free 5kg–10kg checked bag or a small separate cabin bag for infants, while others require any nappy bag items to fit strictly inside the adult's hand luggage allowance. We advise to always check your airline's website direct site to see what applies to you.
Pushchairs & Car Seats at the Airport
Free Check-In: It is standard industry practice to allow you to check a pushchair/stroller free of charge. Most airlines will allow you to bring up to two pieces of essential infant equipment (like a collapsible pushchair, travel cot, or car seat) for free.
To the Gate: You can usually keep your pushchair with you through the terminal right up until you reach the aircraft door, where the cabin crew will take it to place in the hold. It will be returned to you either at the plane door on arrival or at baggage reclaim.
We advise to always check your airline's website direct site to see what applies to you.
Travelling with Breast Milk and Formula
Liquid Exemptions: When departing from UK airports, breast milk and formula are exempt from the standard 100ml liquid limits. You are allowed to carry as much as you reasonably need for the journey.
Security Screening: Be prepared to remove these items from your bag at airport security. Security staff may need to screen the liquids separately, and in some cases, you may be asked to taste it to verify it is safe.
