Jet Fuel Updates & Your Travel Plans

We know that when you’ve got a holiday on the horizon, the last thing you want is uncertainty. You may have seen recent news regarding global jet fuel supplies following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. We want to reassure you that we’re onto it.

We are closely monitoring advice from the UK Government, our airline partners, and airports to keep you moving. Here is the latest lowdown on the situation and what it means for your upcoming getaway.

Is there a jet fuel shortage in the UK?

The short answer? No. UK airlines have been very clear that they are not currently seeing a shortage of jet fuel.

Airlines typically buy their fuel well in advance, and UK airports maintain healthy stocks to make sure they’re resilient to global shifts. So, while the news might sound a bit daunting, the bunkered fuel at our airports is keeping things running as usual.

Do I need to change my travel plans?

Not at all. There is currently no need to change your upcoming travel plans.

The UK Government is meeting with the industry daily to monitor any risks. If anything changes, we’ll be the first to let you know. For now, the best thing you can do is keep an eye on your emails and check in with your airline before you head to the airport.

Are flights being cancelled?

We’ve seen some headlines about cancellations, but let’s look at the actual numbers. Data shows that only 0.53% of planned UK flights were cancelled recently, which is actually lower than the 1% we usually see in a normal year!

The small number of cancellations we have seen are mostly linked to specific routes in the Middle East due to local airspace closures, rather than fuel issues. For the summer months (June through to August), cancellations are currently tracking at a tiny 0.2%.

How are my holidays protected?

The Government has introduced new measures to give you even more peace of mind. They’ve relaxed airport slot rules, which basically gives airlines the flexibility to lock in their schedules early.

What does this mean for you?

😥No last-minute surprises: Instead of waiting until the day of travel, airlines can adjust schedules weeks in advance if they need to.

🎫Proactive re-booking: If a flight does need to change, you’ll be moved to a new service much earlier, helping you avoid any stressful moments.

Our Advice to You:

🛫Check before you trek: Keep an eye on your airline’s app or website for the latest status of your flight.

🛡️Stay insured: As always, make sure you have a valid travel insurance policy in place.
