EES (EU Entry/Exit System)

What is EES?

As of the 12th of October, the EU plans to gradually introduce the Entry/Exit system (EES).

This is a new digital border system that will change requirements for UK and all other non-EU passport holders when taking a trip up to 90 days within any 180-day period, to and from, the Schengen area.

Where will EES apply?

There are 29 EU countries that will soon implement EES:

I have a UK or non-EU passport, what's next?

๐Ÿคณ The first time you use the new system, you will be required to register your biometric data (fingerprints and a photo) alongside other basic information. Until the full roll out of EES, which is estimated for February 2026, all passports will also continue to be stamped manually.โ€ฏโ€ฏ

Children under 12 won't have to provide fingerprints and staff should be on hand to help should you have any questions.

Your EES registration will be valid for three years, with a requirement for your details to be verified on each trip during that period (biometric checks).

Will I have to pay to register?

โŒ No, the EES will not charge for registration. Registration is free for UK and non-EU passport holders when traveling to the Schengen area for short stays.
